Chaozhou ceramics are one of the famous traditional Han Chinese ceramic crafts in Guangdong Province. It has a long history. The Beiqiu site in Chenqiao Village, within the country, shows that as early as 6,000 years ago, the ancestors were already thriving and making pottery here. The excavations at the Beiguan ancient kiln site, the Nanguan ancient kiln site, and the Song Dynasty kiln site on Bijiashan (see entry for details) also indicate that at least in the early years of the Tang Dynasty's Yifengtiuliu period (676-679 AD), Chaozhou already had a large-scale ceramic production industry and underglaze brown-painted porcelain appeared. Chaozhou, as the porcelain capital of Guangdong during the Song Dynasty, had its central production area around the city of Chaozhou. Today, Chaozhou has been named the "Porcelain Capital of China," and the city has a considerable scale of ceramic production.
